Once upon a time, the legendary rishi Durvasa, known in the three worlds for his short temper visited the house of kuntibhoj. Upon his visit, rishi durvasa was extremely pleased by the devotion, comfort, and diligent services offered by Kunti in the absence of her father. Kunti, originally named Pritha was the daughter of Shurasena, the ruler of the Yadava clan but was offered to the childless Kuntibhoja, his cousin. Pleased by Kunti, Durvasa offered the young maiden a boon- the siddha mantra that would invoke any god and bless her with a child.

Out of impetuous curiosity, Kunti invoked the sun god, Surya dev by chanting the mantra. Bound by the power of the boon, Surya dev blessed her with a son. This child was born with a sacred armor that blazed like the golden rays of the morning sun. But being ashamed and out of fear of society, she abandoned her son with a heavy heart, lamenting her actions for her entire life.

The holy waves of the Yamuna and the Ganga river carried the basket of the child for days, protecting him as her own. Soon after, Radha, the wife of a chariot driver found the abandoned son in the kingdom of Anga. Being childless, Radha and her husband, Adhirath accepted the son as a blessing and raised him with unconditional love. Karna grew into a ferocious and devoted warrior skilled in archery.
