“The kingdom seeks revenge! It seeks justice father!”

“and it won’t matter if a soul refuses to fight!”

“our lives are in danger! how do you expect me to step back and let our people die!”

“well, Maya, let’s calm down. You are precious to me. I have no one else to live for and if something happens to you….”

“Father, nothing will happen to me. I promise to return. I promise not to die”

Maya was breathing heavily, stealing moments from the life she knew was bound to end in a few moments. The promise she made to her father was haunting her. She wanted to live. She wanted to return to her father. “Help” she whispered but she was alone. No one to save her. Soaked in salt and water from the ocean, she was lying on the soft sand of an island. She took a deep breath, whispered a prayer, and darkness engulfed.

“She must be taken to the royalty immediately”

“I rather would take her to Mr. Headwoods first. Let her wounds be recovered and then the royalty can be seeked”

“Oh wait, her eyes. she is gaining consciousness.”

Maya opened her eyes lightly. She was in a dark room, a dozen of men and women staring at her. A white cloth had been tied to her left hand to avoid the uncontrollable bleeding.

“Thank you for saving me but where am I?” she asked as she straightened her back and sat back, leaning onto the cold wall of the room.

“Princess, we have been waiting for you for years. ” replied a man as he stepped ahead. He was tall, muscular and composed. His curly hair veiled his blue eyes but failed to hide the confidence but devotion reflected from his heart.

“I do not understand. I am not a princess. I am Maya, and I drowned into the ocean before I was washed away onto the shores of this island but I believe….” A man rushed through the doors of the cottage before Maya could speak another word. All the men and the women bowed at him, as he walked straight to Maya, and to her astonishment, the soldier bowed at her.

“Princess, the royal carriage is awaiting you. At your command we may leave for the Palace” he said lowering his head.

“I am sorry but I have to go back. I must return to my father. And I assure you I am not your princess. I believe there is something you have assumed incorrectly”

Long before she could argue any further, she was escorted to the carriage. She was assured that once she meets the Queen, she could choose if she wants to return. The road was bumpy and silent. She was forbidden to speak to anyone unless it is the Queen herself as the soldier had respectfully denied answering her questions. After a steep turn on the road, the carriage halted. A trumpet announced her arrival. She took a deep breath and stepped down the carriage.

The palace was marvelous. Beautifully crafted by the best architects and craftsmen, it was the most wonderful sight Maya had ever witnessed. Made of white marble, the palace represented the elements of the earth. Huge green mountains and the vast blue sky added to the beauty of the moment.

“Mesmerizing” whispered Maya.

“This way,” said the soldier as he signed Maya to walk towards the Palace. After walking for a few miles, she saw the queen waiting for her. She could sense her heart racing.
