A TIME TRAVELLER

“what’s the time Maya?” Kiara asked worriedly while driving the scooter. It was getting dark and they were already late.

” 9.27 Pm,” said Maya irritatedly checking her watch. She was letting random thoughts doze her mind off into another world. Ahh yes, it was a beautiful silver night, a full moon radiating its light and capturing the attention of all those rushing to their home. The night air was cold and calm. The crowd was tingling off the streets and so Kiara rushed faster. Just as she was driving, what looked like a plane street until now suddenly emerged a man from nowhere. She instinctively pushed the brakes which diverted Maya’s attention to the stranger that appeared out of thin air. That was definitely something to be scared of. The man dressed in a suit with a gleaming red tie and a blue suitcase did not bother to look at them but was more occupied with his surroundings. Soon the look of being clueless changed into a broad smile. A smile one puts on when one is happy from deep within. Somewhat like he just accomplished the greatest task of his life. Little did they know that he instead accomplished the greatest task of humankind. 

After what felt like dozens of seconds, the man finally looked at the 2 girls that clearly appeared to be flattered but scared by this old man. “You must be Maya right?” asked the man with a weird but hopeful smile. The girls freaked out. ” What the hell, who are you and h-ho-how do you know me?” confronted a scared Maya. By now she knew that something about the night wasn’t right and something about the man was definitely wrong. 

Unable to utter a word, Kiara thought of rushing home and avoiding the stranger that sensed to be trouble. Just as she turned the keys, the man said” Ohh ohhh young ladies you do not have to freak out. I am no trouble. Well, I did not accept any other reaction though but right umm lemme introduce myself first. I am Mr. Lensen. the director of I- tech. and of course, it is a pleasure meeting you Maya. Just as a dream come true”

” I don’t get it, sorry but I haven’t heard of I-tech and why is meeting me a dream for you? I really think you are out of your mind sir” Maya said awfully.

” We need to get home, please will you step aside and not block our way thank you” Kiara interrupted coldly and decided to not wait for a second more.

“Ahhhh I see, in which year am I by the way?”

“2020” said Maya suspiciously.

” You must not be knowing it then”

Knowing what?” Kiara’s determination to rush past the man was diverted by the watch the man wore. It was a grey analog watch with thick gold linings. Something about the watch was strange. She did not know what but it wasn’t just right. Well, everything about the man was strange so no big deal. let’s go she thought.

” Will you please stop fidgeting with the scooter keys and turning this old vehicle on and off? I am sorry but it is really diverting the current issue?”

Kiara gave him a sharp-eyed look and turned it off. . She decided to hear him out.” if this gets any uglier I am rushing past this man without a second thought Maya”. “all alright” whispered Maya.

“So where was I? Ahhh yes the year. 2020. ” The old man turned his wrist and checked the time.” Okay hear me out, it may sound a bit- Nah well a lot strange and weird but I am here to warn and protect you. “

“why would you even do that- Maya’s life? Protection from what?”

“This is getting a lot messier. I must spill it out, Sir.”

The girls turned around and looked around but no other soul was present but them.

“Excuse me Sir but we really need to leave now, there’s no time for all of this joke alright”

“No noo no hear me out, please. This will maybe freak you out but…..” with a long pause, he looked at his watch and said,” I am from 2050.”

“What do you mean by that” asked Maya stretching each word.

“A time traveler to be precise”

“Nice meeting you, goodnight,” said Kiara coldly and rushed past the man. Maya kept glancing back looking at this strange old man who kept looking at her with eyes filled with curiosity, gratitude, and hope of meeting again.

” what was all that” Kiara finally erupted.

” Listen I know the man is clearly a trouble but was he lying?”

“of course he was Maya. Have you lost your mind? a time traveler? and from whom does he needs to protect you?”

” I saw it in his eyes. Whatever it was I know he wasn’t lying when he said he is no trouble. And the point is even if he faked being a time traveler how did he even appear out of thin air? you saw it yourself right. There must be something about it. And yes he did not forcefully stop us now? did he? he surely is no trouble. Let’s hear him out?”

Kiara stopped the vehicle at the thought of the man appearing out of nowhere.

” Well he did appear magically but that doesn’t mean he is safe to be around. It’s night already and we must not go near strangers at this time. I know all of your humanity is awakened right now inside your heart for trusting the stranger but the risk is not worth it. Alright? We will think about it tomorrow and if he really wants to warn you, we’ll catch him around. Kiara turned the keys and glanced back at the Man who faintly smiled at her. 

 Maya kept looking back as Kiara drove. Her instinct held up the thought that her life is going to change and something big is up for her. It felt like the call of destiny. Not today she thought.
